Good morning, beautiful….
I know you thought that yesterday would NEVER end! You had your day all planned out. You were going to deep clean the house after dropping the kids off at school from their fun and messy summer. Next on your list was to get up enough money to pay the light bill that was due last week but you had to get an extension on it. While worrying about that, your heart is in limbo because this guy you liked has not sent a good morning text in the past week. Oh, if it could only go right with this guy! You want someone to love, and you want your kids to know what it’s like to have a dad. As you refocus your thoughts on your to do list, trying to ignore “rejection number three,” on your list was to look over the assignments due for the online classes you are taking.
Ever since you were a little girl, you dreamed of being a nurse and day in and day out you watched others live out your dream as you moped the floors. As you mopped, all you could see was your reflection on the cold wet floor. Every day you are reminded of the day where your life changed. You got pregnant in high school, which changed the entire life course you had planned for yourself. Although you did not enjoy cleaning the floors or seeing your reflection as a constant reminder of who you could have been, the joy of what you could be one day keeps you going!
I know that yesterday was one of the longest days of your life, yet! Your day was going as planned until one of your kids got sick, so you had to take him to the doctor. As you sat in the waiting room, your heart began to flutter at the thought of having to pay for the medicine and even worse- possibly missing your shift at work. “How am I going to pay for the light bill today?” you thought to yourself as your tried to keep it together for your little one. In that moment, your son not feeling well, snuggled up to you and your heart smiled, taking away all the anxiety about the bills for a moment. After seeing the doctor, of course he was sick and had to be medically treated, so there went part of the money for light bill.
After getting the medicine you went home and began cleaning. You had just enough time to set out dinner for the babysitter before you left for your night shift at the hospital. By this point of your day, you were emotionally drained and physically exhausted. Your mind was racing about bills that were due as well as assignments that you never got to finish and at that moment you heard a loud “pop.” You closed your eyes hoping it was a dream or at least someone else’s car but, no, it was yours! There you sat on the side of the road with a flat tire. You were officially DONE for the day. There was nothing left for you to give, so you sat there and cried, not knowing how you were going to make it another second without absolutely losing your mind.
However, you had that one friend you could always count on. You called her up, and she took you to and from work. After a long night shift, you stumbled through the door of your house to only sleep a few hours before getting the kids ready for school; what an amazing mom you are! I know that yesterday was absolutely crazy for you, but guess what, YOU DID IT!
As you go to work today, remember that you are one step closer to turning in that mop bucket and picking up your shift as an RN. You have such a bright and beautiful future before you! As you strive and set goals to reach your dream to be a nurse, please never forget that “life is a gift and that is why we call it the present.” Be present! You only get your kids once. You only have time with your family for a short while so talk with them! That friend that you haven’t spoken to in a few months because life has been so busy, call them up for a Netflix binge on your day off! Enjoy this MOMENT!
I know that life did not turn out the way that you have planned but you cannot go anywhere but forward! No one knows what this new day holds for you, but as you lay here trying to convince yourself to get out of the bed, please remember that although you may be a mom, a daughter, a sister, a friend, an underpaid janitor or a soon to be nurse; before you carry any of those titles, REMEMBER that you are a human being not a human doing! So just be you… beautiful one! Be beautiful at being! Also, just in case you did not think you were worthy of a good morning text because that selfish guy dumped you for another, ALWAYS remember that you are worthy of that text and so much more! So just in case no one told you yet…
Good morning beautiful! You totally got this!
